Simultaneous Removal of Inorganic and Organic Pollutants from Polycontaminated Wastewaters on Modified Hemp-Based Felts

In this study, an adsorption process using hemp-based materials in felt form was applied to remove between 45 and 53 contaminants present wastewater from the surface treatment industry. Several were compared batch experiments, including a made of 100% hemp fiber (HEMP), same cross-linked with 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid (HEMPBA), coated maltodextrin-1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic polymer (HEMPM), hydroxypropyl-a-cyclodextrin-1,2,3,4-butanetetra-carboxylic (HEMPCD). Chemical analysis showed that HEMPBA, HEMPM HEMPCD had high capacities on metals wastewater, confirming role carboxylic groups. Only able both organics, resulting virtual elimination organics such as chloroform, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, nonylphenol. This result demonstrated important cyclodextrin molecules mechanism. also resulted decrease residual chemical oxygen demand total organic carbon more than 83% 53%, respectively, while HEMP lowered them by 12% 12%, HEMPBA 9% 7%, 45% 26%. abatement toxicity mitigation have onto non-conventional material could be interesting step for detoxification wastewater.
